Jot is built to keep your data on your Mac. This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not collect.
Every note you capture is stored locally, in a plain JSON file inside your Mac's Application Support folder. Your captures are never uploaded, synced, or transmitted to us or anyone else. Jot has no servers and no analytics.
Jot ships in two editions and neither one collects your notes. The Mac App Store edition is fully offline: it runs in Apple's sandbox, makes no network requests at all, and has no license check, since your purchase is handled by Apple. The edition sold from this website verifies a license key, described next, which is the only network request it makes.
The website edition makes one network request: to verify your license key with our payments provider, Polar. When you activate the app or when it periodically re-checks your license, it sends your license key, an activation identifier, and your organization's public id to Polar's API. It does not send any of your captured notes.
Mac App Store purchases are handled entirely by Apple. Purchases from this website are processed by Polar Software Inc., acting as Merchant of Record; your name, email, and billing details are handled by Polar under their privacy policy. We never see your card details.
Jot requests no special system permissions: no microphone, no Accessibility, no screen recording, no contacts.
